Subcontracts for the Reconstruction of Šiauliai and Telšiai GDS and Separate Branches of the Main Pipeline

13-06-2022. Elsis TS has signed several subcontracts with Alvora UAB, which has been selected by Amber Grid AB as the main contractor for the implementation of a strategic project – increasing the capacity of the gas pipeline interconnection between Latvia and Lithuania (ELLI). The contracts cover various works for the reconstruction of the Šiauliai and Telšiai gas distribution stations (GDS) and the installation of new branches of the main gas pipeline (MP).

ELLI (Enhancement of Latvia-Lithuania Interconnection) is a strategic energy project which is included in the EU’s List of Projects of Common Interest, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) Ten-Year Development Plan, and the Implementation Plan for the National Electricity and Natural Gas Transmission Infrastructure Priority Projects.

The reconstruction of the Šiauliai and Telšiai Gas Distribution Stations (GDS) will include the construction of new container-type buildings, which will be equipped with all the technological equipment, the installation of gas filter shelters, the reconstruction of the main gas pipelines and the reinstallation of the necessary engineering infrastructure. Elsis TS will carry out the installation, connection and programming of electrical engineering, earthing and lightning protection, automation and control systems, SCADA equipment for the Šiauliai and Telšiai GDS.

During the reconstruction of the main gas pipeline, a connection between the branch to the Panevėžys Gas Compressor Station and the Line II of the MP Panevėžys – Šiauliai will be constructed, a DN 700, 36 m long section of the main gas pipeline will be built, a site for shut-off valves and other accessories will be installed. Elsis TS will carry out the installation, connection and programming of electrical engineering, earthing and lightning protection, automation and control system, SCADA equipment and other related services.

The successful implementation of these projects will contribute to the modernisation of the main gas pipeline network operated by Amber Grid AB and will increase the network reliability. At the same time, it will ensure sufficient capacity between the Baltic States and other European countries, allow the use of alternative gas supply sources and transport routes for the countries of the region, increase the security of gas supply in the region and reduce dependence on a single gas supplier, contribute to the development of the internal energy market, increase market integration and competition, and strengthen the overall energy security of the EU countries.

The work is scheduled to be completed by 31 October 2023.
